If there’s one thing I cannot resist, it’s a cute set of whimsical arrows. Put it on your wall, a necklace, blanket, garland…it doesn’t matter. Give me all the whimsical arrow art!
When we updated our little girl’s room, we toned down her pink walls a bit with a big ol’ piece of whimsical arrow art on one wall, and her white dresser flanked with floating bookshelves on the other wall (see the full bedroom tour here):
(psst: if you are about our favorite books curious, you can check out the post about the childrens books on her shelves).
Supplies for Whimsical Arrow Wall Art
Her whimsical arrow art came together really easily thanks to a few shortcuts. First, the arrows were a prefinished purchase from Target. The colors coordinated perfectly with her decor, so they were a great find.
Next, we needed something to mount the arrows on. You really don’t need to mount them on anything. They are wonderful by themselves! But since our objective was to tone down the pink on the bedroom walls, we decided to mount them on two pieces of wood plank board. You could also make your own wood plank boards to save a bit of money.
We chose to stain the plank board grey. The board sucked up the stain quickly, so I used one coat and wiped down the boards immediately after application. Here is how the wiped down boards looked after drying:
Assembling the Whimsical Arrow Art
I lined my plank boards up, allowing a slight space between the two that was approximately the same width as the other boards’ spacing.
Next, I measured and marked the center of the plank boards. Using 3M Command Strips, I attached the middle arrow, and then the two side arrows, again using my measuring tape to ensure the arrows were placed symmetrically.
Mounting Our Whimsical Arrow Art
Last but not least, I mounted the plank board to the wall with my Command Strips. We LOVE Command Strips and use them for just about everything we hang (except for heavier pieces of art that need to be anchored to the wall). They work great and, so far, have held up really well.
And viola! Our custom whimsical arrow art hanging in our little girl’s room. We also made the little house shelves on the wall (paint colors selected by Miss Four).
