With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I’m on the hunt for simple and inexpensive kids Valentines for my kids. In the past, we’ve both bought and made our valentines, and I think both are great. if your kids enjoy coloring then they will love the free Valentine printables in this post. They were hand drawn by me, but designed by my daughter!
She is a crafter like her mama, but what she really loves is just simply to do coloring pages. So this year, we are using clear envelopes and adding a few Target dollar spot finds to make these Valentine printables extra special and candy free!
You can snag a FREE kids Valentine printables in this post. Just scroll down and click the button that says “get my printable”. Once you subscribe, you’ll get instant access to the download files.
The download includes the two most popular coloring Valentines, the owl and bee. BUT if owls and bees are not your thing, don’t worry. You can also shop all the coloring Valentines available.
So here’s how we fancied up the coloring Valentines into a fun confetti card that you can mail OR handout. Ready? Go!
Supplies for Coloring Valentines
- Nail stickers (I found ours in the Target dollar spot)
- Temporary Tattoos (again, Target dollar spot for the win)
- Small sticker books (we chose My Little Ponies and Paw Patrol and picked them up in the same Target trip)
- Kids Coloring Valentine (sign up below to get yours FREE to your inbox)
- Clear plastic envelopes
- Confetti (Target dollar spot has some ADORABLE heart confetti, but I had already purchased ours on Amazon)
Assembling the Coloring Valentines
First things first, print out your Valentines. The printable will print 6 per 8.5 by 11 page. I recommend using cardstock to mitigate any crumpling and folding. Maybe it’s just my children, but most things that come home from preschool end up crumpled and folded. You too? Ok good. I thought I was the crazy one for a minute.

Cut the Valentines out using regular old scissors or a paper cutter. I like to use a scrapbook paper cutter from Fiskars (link to similar), but any will do. To totally over-achieve at parenting for the day, have your kiddo practice scissor skills and cut them out themselves.
Now, while your sweetie is coloring all the Valentines, get to work cutting the nail stickers, sticker pages (if necessary) and temporary tattoos into individual sizes. I was able to get three nail sticker sets per pack. That made this mama happy because the price tag on this craft was TINY!
Even better – I only bought one pack of temporary tattoos because there were two sheets per pack. Here is what you are looking for when you go to Target:
With the Valentines colored and addressed to friends, now’s the time to start stuffing your envelopes. This was my daughter’s favorite part. She got to take a pinch or two of confetti per envelope, and while I held it open, she sprinkled the confetti.
Then, I helped her add the nail stickers, tattoos and stickers to each pack, taking care to add them to the back of the envelope. We didn’t want to cover over her adorable artwork! Here’s how the back looks with all the goodies:
And that’s it! The coolest thing about these Valentines (besides that they are cheap, candy free and all sorts of crafty)? You can actually mail them! Yep, just address them and add a stamp to the outside of the envelope! How cool is that?
Now, if you are including goodies in your Valentines, I would recommend adding a white sticker to the outside of the envelope and addressing it there. This way, the address will be nice and clear. We don’t want any misplaced Valentines. If you are sending these to grandparents or other family members that don’t need goodies, you can find a double-sided postcard printable here.
