We are blessed with fabulous preschool teachers this year, and I could not wait to give them a fun handmade thank you card set for teacher appreciation week. Teacher gifts can be a bit tricky. I’m always looking for items that are both practical and thoughtful. A handmade thank you card set is a wonderful way to thank a teacher AND give them something they will use. Can you imagine how many thank you cards each teacher writes every year? My goodness!
All you need for this cute teacher gift is a pack of notecards with envelopes, washi tape, and a scissors.
We picked up a 200 pack of notecards from Target. Unfortunately, they are only available in store, but here’s a similar notecard set on Amazon.
Next, I dug into my washi tape stash and picked out a few of my favorites. Confession: I have a GIANT ziplock bag full of washi tape. I know, that’s probably excessive. But I love using washi to personalize packaging for special gifts AND for all my fabulous customers purchasing prints from the Sweet Lilac Print Shop. All this to say there is no lack of washi tape over here.
Another note on washi: I love to pick it up on clearance in an off season. For example: the pineapple washi tape was a clearance buy from Michael’s during the dead of winter.
Every now and then, I also go crazy purchasing washi tape on Amazon (I’m loving the gold foil washi tape sets right now). I usually pick a few favorites that I can use year round, then replenish as needed.
P.S. If you are a fellow washi tape hoarder and want to swap with me, feel free to email me. No seriously. Don’t be shy!
Ok, enough on the washi tape. Now that you have your cards and your tape ready, go crazy putting strips on the cards! I kept mine simple with just a strip of washi tape per card. You could layer multiple strips of washi, create patterns or whatever your crafty little heart desires. We made 24 cards for each teacher.
We packaged our little handmade thank you card sets with a colorful journal. If you don’t think your teachers use journals, you could pick a fun pen set to pair with the cards. We also added a Target gift card to our handmade card sets.
It was so cute watching my daughter deliver these to the teachers. She was so proud! When they asked her what they gifts were for (hint: teacher appreciation week), she gleefully shouted, “they’re for YOU!” Adorable.
